Pickin Boogers! & Eating Them!!!

Did you know???
people who pick their noses with their fingers are healthier, happier, and more in tune with their bodies. His argument stems from the notion that exposing the body to the dried germ corpses helps to reinforce the immune system. The good doctor feels that society should adopt a new approach to nose-picking, and encourage children to take up the habit.

Dr. Bischinger has been quoted as saying (in an Austrian accent), "With the finger you can get to places you just can't reach with a handkerchief, keeping your nose far cleaner. And eating the dry remains of what you pull out is a great way of strengthening the body's immune system." He then added, "Medically it makes great sense and is a perfectly natural thing to do. In terms of the immune system the nose is a filter in which a great deal of bacteria are collected, and when this mixture arrives in the intestines it works just like a medicine."

"Modern medicine is constantly trying to do the same thing through far more complicated methods, people who pick their nose and eat it get a natural boost to their immune system for free."

This theoretical boost comes from the fact that boogers are chock full of bacteria which your body has shuttled out by way of mucus. Mucus lines many of the pathways into the body's delicate innards, and creates a surface which is like flypaper for bacteria and other particles. Once stuff becomes mired in the goo, the loaded mucus is slowly escorted out by tiny hairs called cilia which sweep the undesirables back out the door. In regards to the nose, when this exiting mucus becomes dry, boogers are produced.

In mankind's caveman times - it would not have been strange to spend an evening sitting around with friends and sampling each other's boogers. It sounds disgusting - but its simply part of our instinctual primate grooming behaivors that have only recently been repressed through collective social training.

It has been speculated that the reason why humans have become so susceptible to viruses and bacterial infections in the last 500 years or so is indeed, because we have lost this beneficial, immune system strengthening behaivor.

The body even naturally encourages the formation of a dense, salty coating to the boogers to make them more palatable. There is no other known reason for the high salt content in the mucus in the nose.

Saturday

Now, the question is "Why wasn't I at the Saturday morning ride"?
Normally, I'd say its too cold! But this time I have a good excuse.
I did race #3 in the Mud in your eye XC running series.
I really enjoyed this series, and hope it turns out to be good off-season training for cycling.
I finished 7th Saturday in my age group with a 35:30 for 5miles
For the series, that landed me in the #6 slot
KaleRunning did a stellar job, and I look forward to participating in more events that they put on!

I'm glad the Snowball crit has been rescheduled---my legs were tenderoni yesterday!
#2 becomes #1 now, and looks like I will miss both Snowballs now due to MTB races.
Can't do it all, but glad I can do what I love!

Also, glad I missed that ride Saturday morn! I probably would have waited till the afternoon, and rode with SR racing at a more reasonable time...

Art Update

Went to check on Art today. The Horvaths', Crazy, Brenna, ran into Bill and Tim and we all had a nice little visit. J-Law joined in as well.
Art's got a bunch of cycling magazines with awesome pictures of crashes----great!
Brenna gave him a special batch of "Brenna Bars' with crazy toe jam...
J-Law brought him a Panera sandwich.
He's got a tube in his damaged lung that is catching fluid. When the fluid stops containing blood, he will be observed for 24hrs, and he can go home. Two broken ribs will take some time to mend. He is still in some pain here and there, and their trying to ease that with dosages of narcotics at the end of a button as soon as every 6 minutes.
He was in very good spirits, and encourages visitors!

Heely Craze

While at Mac Arthur Mall today for the Judsters Hurrah Players presentation, we went on a mission to get ol girl some Heelys. You know what they are, those kids you see wearing sneakers with a wheel in the heel annoyingly rolling around. Evidently, they are hard to find. A bunch of places laughed at us and said they were sold out. We tried Nordstroms and Jackpot! Not only did we find them, but three representatives were there from team heely. So she tried them on, then got personal instructions from the kool cats of team heely. They gave her a hat and DVD. After a little bit of practice, she's got it!

Blogger Arrested!

Kareem's Blog

An Egyptian blogger was convicted and sentenced to four years in prison for insulting Islam and Egypt's president, sending a chill through fellow Internet writers who fear a government crackdown.
He often lashed out at Al-Azhar _ the most prominent religious centre in Sunni Islam _ calling it "the university of terrorism" and accusing it of encouraging extremism.
"I am shocked," said Wael Abbas, a blogger who writes frequently about police abuses and other human rights violations in Egypt. "This is a terrible message to anyone who intends to express his opinion and to bloggers in particular."
"We (the Egyptian people) are enduring oppression, poverty and torture, so the least we can do is insult the president," he said.

Associated Press Writer Maggie Michael contributed to this report in Cairo.

Hope you all can see and appreciate our freedom, and those that risk their lives every day for it!

How do you respond to Threats

You know it's been reported that K-Fed Threatened to take a hair sample of Britney's mop to get it analized to "see what she has been up to". This sparked a huge fight via cell phone, and later that night she showed him!
Women do some stupid things when threatened... I woulda said "oh yeah? Do it"!

Bread Tie's

You ever notice the twisty ties on bread bags are different colors? Do you wonder if the colors have signifigance?
Well they do, and like the Saturday morning ride guidelines, these should be on a card and laminated.

Bread is delivered fresh to stores five days a week---Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Each day has a different twist tie
Monday--Blue
Tuesday--Green
Thursday--Red
Friday--White
Saturday--Yellow

How many of ya'll knew that?
A great conversation piece in the bread aisle...

Gotta have Saul

A good Day of Racing

We have the Daytona 500 which i'm watching right now, and the Tour of California which can be viewed on the VS channel starting 5pm for 2hrs. I'm recording it so I can blow through the commercials. I'm trying my best not to check it online! I'm going to the gym while they race.

Went to Kangaroo Jacs today to let the Judster burn off some steam!

It flurried today for a little while.

This morning while checking email, I saw this poofy dove chillin on my fence. He looks cozy!

It's Movie Time!!!

Nature's Path 07!

Nature's Path Pro-Am Cycling Team for 2007

The Nature's Path Pro-Am Cycling Team will continue as National Race Calendar underdogs for 2007. The small team has retained its four-man roster from 2006, with a new addition Peter Penzell coming from the Rite Aid Professional Cycling team.

Once again Nature's Path Foods has increased their financial backing of the team for 2007. A new partnership to the team has come from the Big Brothers Big Sisters Organization of the Greater Richmond Virginia area.

"We have decided to partner with Big Brothers Big Sisters as a means to conduct youth outreach to promising kids not only in Richmond, but in reality, everywhere our traveling takes us for events," said the team's manager/athlete Craig Dodson. "We are looking to supply bicycles, helmets, and an academic scholarship to Big Brothers Big Sisters youth during our season long quest to educate kids about cycling and the positive lifestyle achievements that often spawn from the sport."

Since the team's athletes are compensated for their living, travel, and race expenses, as well as health insurance and food costs, racing and outreach efforts are full-time obligations.

More information about the team and it's fund raising efforts for Big Brothers Big Sisters can be found at www.naturespathcycling.com

Enough with the Valentines!!!

The Fine fellows at Contes took my cross tires off, and glued on some sweet red tufo's.
They look so nice and fast, I can't wait to race them!

The cross tufo's came off so well that we'll be able to use them again next season.

A Very Special Valentine

Anyway I hope you can tell I was really surprised and thrilled with my bear that will always be on my bed so you will be close to me.

Mystery Solved

I have recently noticed some strange wormlike objects accumulating near my fork mount of the bike rack.
As I approached the beamer with my bike, I spotted this little fella perched on my rack. I quickly ran for the D-Fitty and grabbed a few shots. He pooped, and I didn't even get mad. Cuteness goes a long way in my book. Plus, I love birds...

Danbo, thanx for photo shoppin my image! That is much nicer!

Sunday Afternoon

Mike, Brenna, Danbo, and myself met at the PLT TT course this afternoon at 12:30 (3 Specialized Transitions and 1 Cannondale Ironman)
It was sunny, and in the lower 40's. Very nice as it's been very cold lately.
We had some great intervals, and working on some form!

Finished things off with some Applebees!
